Hey Ms. O!!! This is Chris here. I do beleive that my opinion has changed because she wants to have a conversation with a man that wants to talk to her. When she said that when she can get a man alone they can freely talk to her but when there is one other then they will ignore her in fear of getting sacked.
I was also worng about her not possesing any power over a man, because she does have power over Crooks because he's black (that was hard to say), she had said that she could get him hanged if he talked back at her.
I was shocked that she DIDN'T want to marry Curly and that she could have been something, a star, but her mother had said that she was too young. That was very sad because she had the chance to make something of her self.
But I wonder WHY did she marry curly? Was it because of his money? And I am also wondering what would she have done if she had never met Curly?
Yes my opinion about Curley's Wife has completely changed. I think that she doesn't act like a looloo for no reason...she just wants to have someone to talk to. I totally understand her, I wouldn't want to spend a whole day in a house while my husband is out in a hor house! Curley's Wife is just really lonely and regrets marrying Curley. But when people get lonely, they get mean. Like i was wrong about her being powerless and not having any control over anything. Well she has control over Crooks. Because he is a man and he is black she can blame him for anything and people will believe her!
Hey Ms. Olson! I totaly agree with Carmella. But I think that she didn't go mean but mabey she got tough, for example she was nice to Lennie. I think that she could have diffied her mom about not letting her go and become a star. I think that her mom was holding her back, but she was also protecting her. I think that Curly's wife could still have gone after she left the house. So she had given up on her dream.
Chris what do u mean by deffied? And I also think think that she married Curley becausehe had the money, and maybe when they first met..he wasn't the person he is now.
Carmella, I meant that she could have gone/run away with the show. That might be true, but tthen why is he so mean now? I think it's because he hates big people so a big person might have messed him up.
Okay, My opinion has definitely changed. I was wrong about my previous comments. I agree with both Carmella and Chris. I think she was just lonely and needed someone to talk to. I agree alot with what Chris said about how she should of gone out and become a star and that her mom was holding her back and protecting her at the same time. I also made a mistake on saying that women had totally no power, because Curley's Wife definitely did. She had power over Crooks, just because he is black. I think that's really sad. I wouldn't want to be ranked just because of my ethnicity.
Question: If Lennie did not kill Curley's Wife, what do you think might of happened? Do you think she still would have caused trouble? Or have we learned more about her to say that she just needed more attention?
Ohh Cara good question. I think that she wudve still caused trouble. But do you think that she would have ever gone and flirted with George just to make Curley jealous?
I read the other comments and I agree with Cara,Carmella and Chris. Chris,Mr.Emborsky told us(when Ms.Olson was sick) that she married Curley to get back at her mother because she did not let her become an actress.Later on though, she regrets her choice because she realized that Curley was no good. All he cares about is "ol one two." As Cara said, she has power over Crooks because he's colored, and when he tried to stand up for himself she put him back in his place. She also over the other men because they WERE afraid of her until Candy tried to stand up to her.
I thought she was a looloo but then, when she finally talked to Lennie, though you could actually tell that it was doing her so much good to talk to someone.I think we just judged her because of what all the other men said about her, that she'd cause them trouble. But if we had seen how she really felt,we wouldn't have judged her this way.
My question is: Why did Curley not want to stay with is wife after Lennie choaked her? Was he too mad/upset to? Also, why did Carlston want to shoot Lennie SO bad?
Hi MS. Olson, My opinion on Curley's wife has changed, because in the book while Lennie and Curley's wie were talking she proved that she wasn't tryig to put the others in trouble, she was just bored because while her husband is with the others having a drink, she is sitting at her house doing nothin. She also proves that she doesn't like Curley, but she only married him to get away from her mom.
In the part when i said mybe women in the great deprresion were treated that way, I shouldn't have said that because I dont know if women were treated like that.
I agree with Carmella in the part when she says she doesn't act like a looloo for no reason, and that she wanted to talk to someone. Curley's wife just married Curley because she was going to be a movie star but her mom didn't let her get married to him because she said she was too young to get married.
I also agree with Chris that she had power over a man. Since crooks is dark colored, no one would trust him if he told Curley that his wife is always talking to someone else. She also said that she could get him hanged (s Cris said, if he talks back to her and if he tells someone about her, no one will trust him.
I pretty much agree with everything everyone has said so far. My answer to Jad's question is: I think Steinbeck made Curley's wife die the way she did because it had to do with showing what Lennie is like and his character and how he likes to touch nice things. It also shows how he can't really control himself. I think Lennie died the way he did, because there is a parallelism between Candy's Dog and Lennie. They both needed to depend on someone else and both didn't really do much.
hi everyone, My opinion about Curley's wife has also changed a bit. I agree a lot with all of you. There is only one thing that I don't understand. Why did Curleys wife marry Curley if she had a chance to get to hollywood? And I was wrong about curley's wife thinking that she gives guys "the eye" just to get a guy with money. Now I understand that she only does it beause she is lonely. And I agree with carmella saying that if you're alone a lot you get kind of weird/lonely.
I totally agree with Cara.I think that they both had to depend on somebody, too. At the end pretty much the ones who depended on somebody else died. The dog, depending on candy,Lennie depending on George and curley's wife depending on Curley.
Helloo!!Mrs Olson I'm agree with Chris, Cara, Carmella, Camille, Jad and Tatjana. My opinion changed, I thought that Curley's wife is a tart as Candy say in the book:I think that Curley married with a tart.I think that Curley's wife need to see somebody, she hate stand in his "one-by-four " house during all the day: "when people get lonely, they get mean" I think that is a thing who characterized Curley's wife. She is unfortunate ,she don't like Curley. I think that Curley's wife need someone like Lennie,as Cara said. In the Cara's comment I like her connection between the old dog who need Candy and Lennie who need George.
My questions is:Why did John Steinbeck appear Curley's wife as a SLUT with men on the ranch? And why Carlson become so MEAN with Lennie?
hi again, I have an answer for Timothee's question: Why is Carlson so mean to Lennie? My response: I think that Carlson became mean with Lennie ,like he did with Candy by telling him the his dog isn't good to himself nor other people on the ranch, because he thinks of lennie as candy's old dog. My questions: Why does everybody think that Curley's wife gets mean because she's lonely? My response: She doesn't get mean she just acts weird and wants to get attention because she is alone all the time.
Hey, people! 1. My opinion hasn't changed very much at all. I still think she's a nice person deep inside. I still think that she's lonely, and that she just needs people to talk to every once in a while. She's just like everybody else on the ranch (mostly), it's not like she's a danger to man kind. 2. Here are my questions: ~Why did she marry Curley if she didn't like him? ~Why didn't she work towards becoming a celebrity (I know her mom was completely against it but STILL. She could've ignored what her mother said and tried to strive for it anyways)? ~Why doesn't she just file for a divorce? ~For what reasons is she staying with Curley? 3. Now for my feedback on what other people said: Chris, why were you surprised that she didn't want to marry Curley? I mean, he's a total jerk. I totally agree with you, Carmella. She DOES need to talk to people. No ones going to spend their entire lives in some hole, separated from the outside world. About Cara's question, I think that she would've caused trouble. But, if she would've survived Lennie's frantic shaking, she probably would've stopped getting herself into trouble, because she would be afriad of getting hurt or killed. Jad, that's a very good question. First of all, the book would've been boring if nobody would've died. But also, like Ms.Olson mentioned in class one day, "This boom is based on the great depression." , meaning that barely anything good happened, many people died or were poor. Ad not many people got their dreams. I can refer back to what Crooks thought of the dream, saying that it wasn't going to happen because there was no hope. Good night, 8th Grade!
My opinion has indeed changed since the beginning of the book,i thought that she was just a looloo and liked to get guys in trouble, but because i have now finished the book, i believe that Curley's wife isn't there to get the guys in trouble. I now know that she is just lonely because she had the opportunity to go be a star in the movies but her mother did not let her, so she went to Curley and realised that it was a big mistake and she would live with nothing but a man who doesn't love his wife, in his small house on a ranch where she can't even talk to any of the men without getting into trouble. Tatjana, to answer your question Curleys wife went to curley because her mother did not let her go perform in the movies. question: Since curleys wife obviously doesnt like curley, and curley doesnt show that he likes her either, why does curley care if the men on the ranch talk to her?
Cara and Tati, i think its great that you guys saw that there were three dependant charachters and that they all died, maybe steinbeck tried to say something by this.
Hey.. ms olson (: my oppion of the woman in the novel hasnt changed much. In the beginning i thought that there must be a reason that they all acted that way.Now in the end it explains it, Curley's wife was sad and desparete because her husband didn't care about her or respected her went to "whore houses" etc.. Also it made me realize that the other woman that we dont know much about probably have the same problem. They have no other way to get money or anything else to be occupied. I think it shows that she (Curley's Wife) didn't act like that for no reason. She needed someone that cared bout her and respected her. She let lennie touch her hair because she wanted someone to appreciate her, tell her she's pretty. Rosa(nn)
My questions are: What happend to their dream? I would also like to know what happend to George? He also depended in some way on Lennie.
I know these questions cant be answered so another one (: Do you think Crooks was relieved that she died? Or Do u think it had also good effects on the farm that she died?
To answer Jad's question: I think that steinbeck killed Lennie to show that not everydream in life will come true. And i think that he wanted to have a realistic end not a happy end.
To answer timothee's question: I agree with tatjana he just was "mean "to him / sais that they should kill him because he thought he would cause more trouble ans isn't any good to anyone on the farm.
To answer micheal's question: You know how some people don't "like" a person but still get jealous.I also think that Curley sees her as his property.
My opinion didn’t change. I never though that Curley’s wife was a looloo. From the beginning I wrote in my comment that she wasn’t the real problem. She didn’t cause trouble, but man characters did.
